Hydroplaning and What to do When it Occurs
Hydroplaning is one of the most common risks while driving in rain. Hydroplaning is when a car slides on a wet surface. According to safe motorist, “Hydroplaning occurs when a tire encounters more water than it can scatter. Water pressure in the front of the wheel pushes water under the tire, and the tire is then separated from the road surface by a thin film of water and loses traction. The result is loss of steering, braking and power control.
The most important thing to do when this occurs is not to panic. Try and remember these steps in case you find yourself in a situation where hydroplaning occurs:
– Avoid slamming on the break
– Slowly take your foot off the accelerator
-Avoid sharp movements of the wheel, when steering be sure to do so gradually and slowly
– Steer gently in the direction your vehicle is facing until you regain control of the car
– This can be a scary moment so, after, take a moment to calm down
