About Glisson Law

Most people who land on this page are checking whether we are real.

Fair enough. Here is what there is to know.

Glisson Law has represented injured people in Illinois and Missouri for more than sixty years, from our main office in Alton and a second office in Springfield. We take injury and wrongful death cases, and only injury and wrongful death cases. We do not write wills, handle divorces, or defend insurance companies, and we never have.

Who are the attorneys at Glisson Law?

Four attorneys practice here: Michael P. Glisson, Timothy Chartrand, John C. Webster, and Samantha B.M. Luck. It is a small firm on purpose, which is why the lawyer you meet is the lawyer who handles your case.

Michael Glisson earned his J.D. from Valparaiso University School of Law in 1996. He has been licensed in Illinois since 1996 and in Missouri since 1998.

His appellate work includes arguing before the Illinois Supreme Court. He is a member of the American Association for Justice and the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, and a past president of the Alton-Wood River Bar Association.

You can meet the attorneys who will handle your case on our team page.

What kinds of cases does Glisson Law take?

Serious injury claims caused by someone else's negligence. In practice that means motor vehicle collisions, commercial truck wrecks, motorcycle crashes, wrongful death, premises liability, dram shop claims, and defective product cases.

We also decline cases, which matters more than firms usually admit. We do not take nursing home claims, medical malpractice, or property damage only matters. Those areas need lawyers who live in them full time, and sending you to the right one is better for you than keeping a file we are not the best home for.

If your case is not ours, we will tell you that on the first call and point you somewhere useful.

Where does Glisson Law practice?

Across Illinois and Missouri, with the heaviest concentration in Madison County, Sangamon County, and the greater St. Louis metro. Our Alton office covers the River Bend and the Metro East. Our Springfield office covers Sangamon County and central Illinois.

Michael Glisson's licenses on both sides of the river are a practical advantage in this region. A crash on the Clark Bridge, a trucking company based in Missouri, or a Metro East resident hurt at work in St. Louis can raise a real question about where the case belongs. Those decisions affect what a claim is worth, and we evaluate them rather than defaulting to the nearest courthouse.

How does Glisson Law charge?

On a contingency fee, which means you owe nothing unless there is a recovery for you. There is no retainer, no hourly billing, and no bill arriving while you are still in treatment.

Case expenses, including medical records, accident reconstruction, and expert witnesses, are advanced by the firm and repaid out of the recovery. If the case does not recover, you are not billed for those either.

Everything is spelled out in writing before you sign, and we will go through it with you line by line.

If you have a question about a percentage, a cost, or how a recovery gets divided, ask it before you sign. A fee agreement should not hold any surprises, and you should understand yours as well as we do.

Why do people choose this firm?

Three reasons come up most often, and none of them are about size.

We try cases. Defense insurers keep track of which firms file and try cases and which ones send demand letters and hope. That reputation is priced into offers before a negotiation starts. You can see the results we have obtained for clients, including seven-figure recoveries in semi-truck, railroad, wrongful death, and FELA barge injury cases.

You get a lawyer, not a case number. Large-volume firms run on intake staff and case managers. Here, the attorney who evaluates your claim is the one who negotiates it and the one who would stand up at trial.

We are part of this legal community. The firm has been based in Alton for more than sixty years, and Michael Glisson is a past president of the Alton-Wood River Bar Association. With offices in Alton and Springfield, we know how cases move through the Third and Seventh Judicial Circuits because we file there, not because we read about it.

Questions people ask before they call

How long has Glisson Law been in business?

More than sixty years representing injured people in Illinois and Missouri. The firm has been based in Alton throughout, and added the Springfield office to serve central Illinois clients closer to home.

Do I have to pay anything to talk to a lawyer here?

No. Consultations are free, available 24 hours a day, and carry no obligation. Many callers walk away with an answer and never become clients, which is a normal and fine outcome. If there is no case, we will say so rather than sign you up.

Will I work with the same attorney the whole time?

Yes. Four lawyers practice here, so files do not get passed around. The attorney who takes your call is the one who knows your case, and you will have a direct way to reach them rather than a general voicemail.
