Why Should I Wear A Helmet While Biking?
A great hobby to pick up during this time could be cycling. Riding your bike is a great way to get outside and exercise. We touched on some tips on bike safety a few blogs ago but wanted to emphasize the importance of wearing a helmet. Here are three of the top reasons to always wear a helmet while cycling:
1. Protect your head and brain from injury
Many forgo this super important step that could be what saves you from a head injury.
According to the Guardian, “A major study of bike helmet use around the world from more than 64,000 cyclists has found helmets reduce the risks of a serious head injury by nearly 70%.”
And in fact, out of bicycling deaths from 1994-2010 11,186 were not wearing a helmet while 839 were.
2. Set a good example for your children
Enforce the rules for your children by doing it yourself and showing how important it is for their safety!
3. Improve your visibility and your ability to see the road in bad weather
Try to find a helmet with a reflective strip on it or you can add your own reflective tape. Another good option is to choose a brightly colored helmet to improve visibility even more. And for you, during bad weather a helmet will shade your face and keep rain out of your eyes.
