Uber: a Safe Alternative
29 mothers, brothers, friends, husbands, and daughters are lost every single day in the United States due to drunk driving. However, according to the Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility, “drunk driving fatalities have declined 35%” in the last two-three decades.
Could Uber be contributing to the recent continued drop in drunk driving statistics?
Uber is a location based apps that makes getting around, without having to drive yourself, easy.
The app user types in their location and requested destination into the search bar and local drivers along with their picture and rating pop up. Once the app has paired the driver and the user the app user can see the location of the driver in route as they are making their way to them in only minutes.
Uber was founded in 2009 and since has found great success. According to Uber 15 million trips are taken each day.
Safety is a prime focus for the company and something they are always striving to increase. In fact, they are implementing many new safety features this summer.
According to Uber there will soon be a dedicated space on the app for safety information called the Safety Center. This will include safety tips, driver screenings, and insurance protections.
They also are adding Trusted Contacts, “Riders will be able to designate up to five friends and family members as Trusted Contacts, and be prompted to share trip details with them during every ride..”
Not every ride is incident free, so they are also creating an emergency button which will put you in direct contact with 911.
Here at Glisson Law we believe in creating safe streets which are free from impaired drivers. If you are in a situation that could put you or other drivers in danger, do not risk it. Take the few seconds to request an Uber.
